The County of Dinwiddie was created in 1752 from Prince George County Virginia, which was created from Charles City Virginia in 1700. Charles City was an Original Shire of Virginia created in 1634. The county seat is located in Dinwiddie Virginia, VA

Notes: William George TOTTY married 1st) to Nancy Ann Unknown. She was born 1839 in of Petersburg, Virginia. He married 2nd) Anne M. BRANCH, daughter of Marcia C. BRANCH.

Perkins in household was most likely the mother of Leanner PERKINS wife of James H. TOTTY.

Martha died sometime after her last child was born in 1841 and June 3rd, 1848 when Benjamin W. TOTTY married Malissa WILSON. According to TOTTY researcher Betty Griffis, her ancestor was Benjamin (Harrison) TOTTY shown here at age 1. He was born in Petersburg City, Virginia. Mary, Amanda, Caroline, Martha and Edward were the children by Benjamin's first wife Martha (Franklin) TOTTY.

TOTTY above husband of Malissa (Wilson) and his first wife Martha (Franklin) TOTTY. Could William shown by enumberator as age 23, actually be William George TOTTY born November 7th 1832 above. We know that the ages were not always correct on the census records. If anyone can Identify this William please let us know.

Notes: Cary Branche TOTTY died November 17, 1939 in Emporia, Sussex County, Virginia. She was married to John M. COLGIN, son of George COLGIN and Elizabeth BINNS. He was born June 1856 in Charles City,[now Dinwiddie Co.] Virginia, and died June 26, 1922 in Petersburg, Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Their children were; 1) John Edward; 2) Blanche Estelle b: Oct. 1882; 3) James M. b: Jan 27, 1886; 4) Walter Emmett b: Aug 25, 1888; Carrie Leonard b: Nov 1891; William R. b: July 16, 1894; 5) Ella Roland b: Sept 1897.
