The County of Charles City was an Original
Shire of Virginia. The county seat is located in Charles City,
VA
Unless otherwise noted the following records were
extracted and submitted by TOTTY researcher Birdie (Totty) McNutt
2 April 1690 [Henrico County
Virginia Wills & Deeds, Etc. 1677-1692, Weisiger II, Iberian Publishing
Co., Athens, GA p. 142:329] 2 April 1690 There is due
to Henry WALTHALL (by assignment from his mother Mrs. Anne MORRIS) 650
acres, for importation of: William DODSON, George MIDDLETON, Sarah CROWTHER,
John MACKDANIELL, John MACHELL, Elizabeth CARR, Mary FRANKLIN, Richard
ELKINS, Thomas TOTTY and Tom and
Moll (negroes) and Elizabeth PRATT
and Joshuah PRITCHETT
Note: Thomas TOTTY was of Henrico
County after this time period, when he was married to the Widow Mary
Davis, per court records. Notice the Mention of the other importee's
along with the negroes Tom and Moll. Later in 1705 Richard
Elkins and Thomas TOTTY are again found in a deed of record for Charles
EVANS of Charles City County. (see below)
27 April 1698 [Henrico County Virginia
Wills & Deeds, Etc. 1677-1692, Weisiger II, Iberian Publishing Co.,
Athens, GA p.104:90] Samuel NEWMAN
of Henrico
Co., for 1000 lbs tobacco, to Ralph JACKSON of Charles City
County., land on north side of Swift Creek, bounded by the creek, 190
[?] acres. 27 April 1698

Note: Thomas TOTTY is again found with
Charles City County connections, as witness to deed above to Ralph Jackson

Note: A Charles EVANS is later found in
Henrico County and Amelia County, Viriginia around the TOTTY families.
Was Thomas TOTTY and Richard ELKINS being transported to or from Charles
City County? More research is needed.
30 June 1709 [Henrico County Virginia
Wills & Deeds, Etc. 1677-1692, Weisiger II, Iberian Publishing Co.,
Athens, GA p.21] page 173 Francis LEADBEATER of
Bristol Parish, Henrico
Co., in consideration that George HUNT will provide for
me and my wife for life, do give him 4 indian slaves: Sarah,
Tom,
Hannah and Moll and all other personal
estate
Dated last day of June 1709
Wit: Wm DOTSON(sic), Thos (T) TOTTY

Note: We again find the names of Tom and
Moll, but this time they are called indian slaves, could they be the same
as Tom and Moll and called negroes, who were imported by Henry Walthall
in 1690?
