The County of Amelia was created in 1734 from Brunswick and Prince George Counties of Virginia.  The original shire was Charles City, later split to include Prince George in 1700.   The county seat is the Town of Amelia.  Our early TOTTY's ancestors were found in Charles City, Henrico and Chesterfield counties.

1762 October 26th  Will   [Will Book 2, Wills of Amelia County, Virginia page 42]
Will of John Haestin (aka Hastings)
John Haestin of Rawley Parish. Will dated 17 Oct 1762, pro. 26 May 1763.
Executor son, John Haestin and wife.   Sec. Francis Tucker and Thomas Booth. Witnesses: John Haestins, John Archer, Peter Coleman, William Haestins.   Legatees: wife plantation where I now live and 200 acres for life or widowhood, then to son John Heastin, son Zacheriah, son Abner, dau. Usley, dau. Edea, dau.Tamer, dau. Amey, dau. Agnis Brintle, dau. Mary TOTTY.
Notes:  John Haestin was married to Amy TUCKER, daughter of Francis and Ann TUCKER. She was born May 12,1721 according to the vestry book  "Births From The Bristol Parish Register of Henrico, Prince George, & Dinwiddie Co. Virginia, 1720-1798, page 97 as Transcribed By Churchill Gibson Chamberlayne.  Thier daughter Mary TUCKER TOTTY was born cira 1745.  Some Haestin/Hastings/Heastin researchers claim this Mary TUCKER was married to William TOTTY, Sr and was the mother of his children that were born before she was?  which is impossible in my book.   She was most likely married to William TOTTY, "JR", NOT his father who was born 1693.  Research still in progress for proof of her marriage to William JR and or which TOTTY she married.

Notes:  The above family is of Edward TOTTY and Agnes Dance TOTTY.   Edward O. TOTTY was born ca 1808 according to his census records and would be one of the males ages under 10.   Who is the other TOTTY male under age 10?   Also one male born between 1794 and 1800.  Who are these unidentified son's of Edward and Agnes TOTTY?   We also show TWO female's under age 10, born between 1800 & 1810 who have been unidentified.  They also had a sister born 1784 to 1794 also unidentified.   Any help on connecting these girls to their parents would be greatly appreciated!

Another Transcription is as follows;

1810 census Amelia County, Virginia page numbers illegible
Edward Totty 21001/20110

Edward O. Totty Jr would have been one of the males 0-10, that leaves us
l male 0-10 born 1800-1810
1 male 10-16 born 1795-1800
2 females born 1800-1810
1 female born 1784-1794 (we can assume she was born about 1794)
Notes:  JT] Hi all made a trip to the library last week and labored over the 1810 census of Amelia Co. Va. The copies are very bad. In fact so light that many names are illegible. I found what I feel is the entry for Edward  Totty. It show children in the house hold that I felt were missing because of the fact that he and Agnes were married in 1792 and the only children I had records of were born after 1800. Since Edward was the only Totty listed in Amelia Co. in 1830 and Edward O. Jr and James A. were most likely the males listed there with him and there are no Tottys listed in Amelia in 1840 there arises the possibility that two of the male Tottys in Hickman in 1830 were sons of Edward and possibly 2 in 1820.

1820 census of Amelia County, Va  for Edward TOTTY [family later found in Hickman Co. TN & Indep. Co. AR]

1 f   45+
1 m 10-16
1 f  10-16
1 m 0-10
1 f 0-10
Note:  45+ male would be Edward O. Totty, 45+ female is Agnes Dance wife, Edward O. TOTTY b. 1808 would be the 10-16 years old or age 12.  Female age 10-16 is still unidentified daughtre of Edward and Agness TOTTY.   The 0-10 yr old female is likely Elizabeth born ca 1814, who married Jesse ARNOLD, research still in progress.,  the 0-10 year old is James A. TOTTY b: 1815 age 5,  research still in progress.
