The County of Grayson is located just South of the Oklahoma boarder in North Central Texas, it was created from Fannin County in 1846, and  was organized later that same year.  Grayson  county was named for Republic of Texas, Attorney General Peter W. Grayson. Sherman being the County Seat.  TOTTY families descendants are still living there today.

1846  Migration  William Steel REEVES and his wife Nancy TOTTY REEVES and family migrated to, Preston, Grayson County, Texas, from Crawford County, Arkansas.  Many of the TOTTY ancestors were later found in Sebastian County, AR, which was formed from Crawford County, Arkansas.

Reeves  migrated to the colony prior to July 1, 1848.  He was issued a land certificate by Ward in 1850 and patented 522 acres in Grayson (Fannin Third Class Nos. 424 and 591).  The remaining portion of the certificate was sold unlocated and was later patented in Grayson County (Fannin Third Class Nos. 2962 and 1839).  He is listed on the census of 1850 (Grayson County, family No. 105) as 25 years old, born in New York, with two children.  Apparently he migrated to Texas from Arkansas.

Reeves  was issued a certificate for 640 acres by the county court of Grayson County.  He sold half unlocated, and it was later patented in Cooke County (Fannin Third Class No. 3235).  The remaining 320 acres he patented in Tarrant County (Robertson Third Class No. 2656).

Notes:  Thomas McNairy REEVES was the son of William Steel and Nancy TOTTY REEVES.

Before 1848 July 1st Patent  [The Peters Colony of Texas A History and Biographical Sketches of the Early Settlers, by Seymour V. STEPHENS.  They also had another son named John Richard STEPHENS  born August 8, 1838 Henry Co., VA and died in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., AR., and this is most likely the same as John R. TOTTY moved to prior to 1880.   They also had a daughter Julia STEPHENS who married a Tom KELLEY, my grand father Green Whitfield TOTTY was living in the HH of Thomas or Otho B.
