Introduction
The County of Hancock was created in 1844 from Claiborne & Hawkins Co's., Tennessee. Claiborne was established from Grainger and Hawkins Co's., TN in 1801. Hawkins was established from Sullivan Co., TN in 1786 and Sullivan Co., from Washington Co. in 1779, which was created in 1777 from the present state. Many counties from section. The county seat for Hancock is located in Sneedville, TN. The State of Tennessee was created in 1796..

Notes: Elisha Austin ROGERS, was born January
14th, 1841 in Carroll County, Tennessee. He died on October 03, 1883,
Aurora, Wise
County, Texas and is buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery #2 in
Aurora, Texas. His wife Nancy Ann MARSHALL ROGERS PARKS is
buried next to him in an Stone marked grave. I have pictures of their
grave stones in my file. Nancy Ann MARSHALL is found in Census records
of Carroll
Co., TN, with her parents John and Nancy MARSHALL in 1850, age
7. Elisha is found in the 1850 Census with his parents C. B. and
Frances D. Rogers as age 10. Elisha Austin ROGERS and Nancy
Ann Marshall were married in Carroll Co., TN on March 17th, 1859.
Nancy Ann Marshall was the daughter of John Neil MARSHALL and Nancy Unknown
of Carroll County. Nancy was born September 05, 1840 in Alabama,
and died April 14, 1924 in Blackburn, Jefferson
County, Oklahoma. They were in Graves County,
Kentucky by 1870, and Wise
County, Texas by 1880. The 1880 Census records shows the family
could not read or write except for their child Thomas Albert Rogers my
great grandfather. Tom was the only child in school in 1880.
Elisha and Nancy moved to Aurora in Wise County Texas around 1879
from Kentucky where they had ten of their childred. Three childred
are listed as being born after their arrival in Texas. They
are both buried together at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery #2 on Keeter Rd,
off of F.M. 730 going west in Wise County, Tx.
