Obituary from Crescent City (OK) News:
Daniel Jesse Hoisington, son of Jesse and Clara Hoisington, was born in (Orleans, Winnesheck County)Iowa July 29, 1861, and was married to Mary (Elizabeth) Hatfield Oct. 22, 1882, and died May 1, 1913, aged 51 years, 10 months and 1 day, leaving a wife and aged mother, 10 children - 5 sons (one of whom preceded him in death), and 5 daughters, 3 borthers and 1 sister, and a host of neighbors to mourn his departure. He was a good man and will be greatly missed. He trusted in Jesus and said he was going home. Funeral services occurred Saturday afternoon from the U.B. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Foosbee, the interment taking place from the Crescent cemetery. In the death of Mr. Hoisington the News editor feels a great personal loss, as the deceased was a friend in need and in deed to the News and its editor. Probably no one outside the manufacturers knew more about the News' press and machinery than did "Dan" as we familiarly called him. Also, when traveling through the country occasionally Dan would see an opportunity of adding a new subscriber or two to the News' list and he always took advantage of every chance to aid the News wither mechanically or otherwise. Of a most cheerful disposition, generous to a fault almost, and ever ready and willing to go to the aid of the unfortunate or need to his utmost ability. He has fought the good fight and now lies down to a well earned rest. Mr. Hoisington was rather unfortunate throughout his lifetime and as far as finanace was concerned was unsuccessful, but when the call of duty to humanity came, he was always on the firing line and as a friend was as true as steel. No man has lived but he has lived well so long as he has seen and done his duty toward friend and humanity as did our friend Dan Hoisington. Trusting in God, he has gone to his long rest, but his memory will long remain green in the hearts of the humanity which has felt his generosity in life. The true devotion and friendship shown by him and the friends made through his ____ in life will remain a sweet memory to the sorrowing family and friends for many years to come and his life has not been lived in vain. Through cloud or sunshine, storm or happiness, Mr. Hoisington did his best and smiled through fortune or adversity, and true a good, big hearted man has gone to his reward. Notes: BTM] Daniel Jesse Hoisington was the father of Freddie Franklin Hoisinton, who was the father of my mother Lorena Pearl (Hoisington) TOTTY who married my father Vernon Estell TOTTY. |
OBIT in Crescent City, Oklahoma Newspaper
"Moses CHADWELL, was born in Beli Co., Kentucky, July 4, 1877 and died Sept. 17, 1914, age 87 years, 2 months, and 18 days. He was married to Ada HOISINGTON Jan. 17, 1909. He leaves a wife and daughter to mourn his loss; also four brothers and three sisters, the infant son preceeded him in death. Mose Chadwell was a good man, a devoted husband and a kind father. He had been ailing for some time and lately underwent an operation from which he never fully recovered. His bereaved relatives have the tenderest sympathy of the whole community in this their sad hous of affliction." |
Jan. 28, 1916 GRANDMA HOISINGTON DIED At the age of 14 she moved with her parents to Winneshiek county, Iowa, where she was married to Jesse Hoisington in June 1858. To this union was born seven children. Six sons and on daughter. The daughter and three sons died in infancy, another son at the age of 18. and Daniel, the oldest son, died some three years ago in Crescent, Charley, the youngest child, being the only one living. He and other relatives and friends are left to mourn their loss. Grandma, as she was called, has been a devoted christian from her childhood, and though she was almost an invalid, yet she never complained. On Monday evening she had just returned home from a visit with Mrs. W. B. Lane. Her son had just built a fire in the stove and had gone out to cut wood, when he heard her call him and on going in found her clothing on fire. He finally succeded in extinguishing the flame but not until she was badly burned. From the effects of the burn and the terrible shock, she passed away the next day at 9:25 a.m. Grandma was conscious until she fell asleep under the influence of the medicine, from which she never rallied. When asked how she caught on fire she did not know, so we can only suppose that she was standing at the table with her back to the stove making some preparation for supper. Grandma Hoisington was a most noble character, filled with tenderness, love and kindness, and her death is indeed deeply mourned by all who knew her, for she was one of God's precious characters, and just such people as her helped to make the world better by having lived. Funeral services were held at the Christian Church, after which the remains were laid to rest in Crescent Cemetery. |
