The County of Jefferson was created in 1907 from Comanche County originally part of the Kiowa, Comanche and Apache Lands.    Waurika is the county Seat of Jefferson County.

1893 May 16   Birth of Beatrice Pearl DOSS, Jefferson County, Oklahoma.
Notes:  Beatrice Pearl DOSS was later the wife of Lewis Philip TOTTY.  Her parents are not known as we are still seeking who her parents were.



1909 July 2nd  Homestead Certificate:
Albert L. Totty - Jefferson County, Oklahoma for 160 acres.

Note:  Mac and Lillie TOTTY Welch were earlier of Montague County, Texas in 1900 census.  Carolyn Welch adds that Elgia age 7 above was the grandfather of her husband Jim Welch.  And Rhoda M.presumable named after her grandmother Rhoda Spradling TOTTY.   Mac and Lillie were found back in Gray County, Texas in the 1920 Census.   Carolyn Welch adds that according to Alma Totty's 'Totty Ties' book the National Archive records have George W. Webb & George W. Welch in the same file, fighting for the same Captain, the same Cavalry unit in Missouri after having enlisted in Monroe Co, MO    There is no George W. Welch listed in the census of 1860 in Monroe Co, MO,  there is however a;  George W. Webb  30 VA, Susan S. 29 KY, Mary E. 8  KY, Lesley M. 6 KY, George  3  KY, John H. 1  KY.    Carolyn adds additionally that the above George age 3 KY, "is the right age for our George W. Welch, Jr.".  The only difference is that of the State of birth, could he have been born in Kentucky rather than Missouri and the family tradition states?



1913  August 30  Marriage of Lewis Pete TOTTY and Beatrice DOSS, Waurika, Oklahoma.


1919 October 25 Birth of Lewis Philip TOTTY, in Oklahoma.  He died on  June 25, 1989, Waurika, Jefferson County, Oklahoma.
Notes:  He was the son of Lewis Phillip TOTTY and Beatrice Pearl DOSS of Waurika.

1950 May 29   Death of Lewis Pete TOTTY, son of  John Whitfield and Sarah Ellen YANDELL TOTTY.  He was born August 08, 1886 in Mansfield, Sebastian County, Arkansas, and died May 29, 1950 in Waurika, Jefferson County, Oklahoma.  He married 1) Nellie SMITH, of which no more is know of her, except she likely died sometime before 1913 when he married 2) Beatrice Pearl DOSS on August 30, 1913 in Waurika, Jefferson County, Oklahoma.  Beatrice was born May 16, 1893 in of Waurika, Jefferson County, Oklahoma, and died May 1980 in Waurika.
Children of LEWIS TOTTY and BEATRICE DOSS are: 1) Cleo A. TOTTY;  2) Lorene P. TOTTY; 3) Lewis Phillip TOTTY;  4) Glenn D. TOTTY;  5)  Margie Wanda TOTTY; 6)  Billie Jean TOTTY; 7) John Doss TOTTY; 8)  Kenneth Dale TOTTY.

    G. W. WELCH DIES AT CLARENDON

Rites held in Miami Sunday for G. W. Welch

Aged Pioneer dies in Clarendon, Thursday, December 30

    Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Church of Christ
in Miami for G. W. Welch, 85, who died Thursday, December 30, at the home of
his daughter, Mrs. Rhoda Talley, in Clarendon, where he had resided since
the death of his wife last June in Miami.

    Rev. Lester Hathaway, minister of the Mobeetie Church of Christ
conducted the services.

    Pallbearers were W. F. Locke; M. M. Craig, Jr; C. P. Pursley; W. C.
Scott; John B. Williams; and L. D. Pittman.

    Interment was made in the Miami Cemetery under the direction of the
Womack Funeral Home of Clarendon.

    George Washington Welch was born in Missouri and moved with his parents
to Texas [THIS INFO INCORRECT] when a young child.  He was united in
marriage to Miss Lillie Totty in Montague County, Texas on July 23, 1884.

    The couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in Miami on July
23, 1934, when a total of 84 relatives were in attendance.

    Survivors are four sons:  Frank of Miami; Burl of Renton, Washington;
Burt of Amarillo; and Elzie [Elgia] of Sweetwater, Oklahoma.  Three
daughters:  Mrs. Sallie Latta of Waurika, Oklahoma; Mrs. Helen Latta of
Elida, New Mexico; and Mrs. Rhoda Talley of Clarendon, Texas.

    Out of towners attending were:  Pfc & Mrs. Victor Welch of Lawton,
Oklahoma; Mrs. Rhoda Talley of Clarendon; Elzie Welch of Sweetwater; Mrs.
Jack Latta, Mr & Mrs. Lockey of Waurika, Oklahoma.

1980 February Death of John Doss TOTTY, he was born on March 07, 1929 in Waurika, Jefferson County, Oklahoma and he died in Waurika, Jefferson County, Oklahoma.
Notes:  John Doss TOTTY was the son of Lewis Phillip TOTTY and Beatrice DOSS.
 
PAMPA - Carl Totty Cantrell, 79, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000.
        Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Colonial Chapel at
Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors with the Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor of First Baptist Church of Childress, and Dr. Derrell Monday, pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery at Miami.
      Mr. Cantrell was born in Miami and was a lifetime resident of Roberts and Gray Counties. During World War II, he served with the Navy as a flight captain on the carrier aircraft units 5 and 65, based out of San Francisco. A member of Central Baptist Church, he retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1973.
       He married Vaneta Gray in 1986 at Pampa.
       Survivors include his wife; three sons, C.E. Cantrell of San Antonio, Paul Cantrell of Staten Island, N.Y., and Ron Gray of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
        The family suggests memorials be to Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 513 E. Francis Ave., Pampa, TX 79065; BSA Hospice and Life Enrichment Center, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176; or The American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.

1989 June 25  Death of Philip Lewis TOTTY, he was born on October 25, 1919, in Jefferson County, Oklahoma.  He died in Waurika, Jefferson County, Oklahoma.


1994 June 07  Death of Kenneth Dale TOTTY, he was born June 11, 1933, and died in  Duncan, Stephens County, Oklahoma.
Notes:  Kenneth Dale TOTTY was the son of Lewis Phillip TOTTY and Beatrice DOSS.

OBITUARY
Margie Totty Wasson

WAURIKA -- A private memorial service will held later for Margie W. Totty Wasson, 76, Ardmore, who died June 18, 2000, at her home.

She was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Randlett, to Lewis and Bernice Totty.

Raised in Waurika, she married Harvey Howard Jan. 3, 1943, in Waurika. He died in 1962. She and Orville Wasson were married March 22, 1968, in Purcell. He died in 1986. She was a former member of Rebekkah Lodge and women of the Moose and worked as a nurse's aide and cook for Waurika High School.

She is survived by sons, Jimmie, Arlington, Texas, and Fred, Goddard, Kan.; a daughter, Faye Bollen, Ardmore; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Dudley Funeral Home will direct services.

Notes: Margie Wanda TOTTY HOWARD WASSON was the daughter of  Lewis P. and Bernice DOSS TOTTY, son of John Whitfield TOTTY and great grandmother Sarah Ellen YANDELL TOTTY of Hickman Co., TN, Montague County, TX and Sebastian Co, AR.   John Whitfield TOTTY was the son of Francis Marion TOTTY and Rhoda SPRADLING TOTTY, son of Robert and Matilda Easley Estes TOTTY, son of Robert and Sandal ANDREWS TOTTY, son of Francis TOTTY, son of William and Mary TOTTY, son of Thomas and Mary TOTTY, of Henricoand Chesterfield Co., VA. and Halifax Co., NC.
