Introduction
The County of Jefferson was created in 1907 from Comanche County originally part of the Kiowa, Comanche and Apache Lands. Waurika is the county Seat of Jefferson County.

Notes: Beatrice Pearl DOSS was later the
wife of Lewis Philip TOTTY. Her parents are not known as we are still
seeking who her parents were.

Note: Mac and Lillie TOTTY Welch were earlier
of Montague
County, Texas in 1900 census. Carolyn Welch adds that Elgia
age 7 above was the grandfather of her husband Jim Welch. And Rhoda
M.presumable named after her grandmother Rhoda Spradling TOTTY.
Mac and Lillie were found back in Gray
County, Texas in the 1920 Census. Carolyn Welch adds
that according to Alma Totty's 'Totty Ties' book the National Archive records
have George W. Webb & George W. Welch in the same file, fighting for
the same Captain, the same Cavalry unit in Missouri after having enlisted
in Monroe
Co, MO There is no George W. Welch listed in
the census of 1860 in Monroe Co, MO, there is however a; George
W. Webb 30 VA, Susan S. 29 KY, Mary E. 8 KY, Lesley M. 6 KY,
George 3 KY, John H. 1 KY. Carolyn
adds additionally that the above George age 3 KY, "is the right age for
our George W. Welch, Jr.". The only difference is that of the State
of birth, could he have been born in Kentucky rather than Missouri and
the family tradition states?

PAMPA - Carl Totty Cantrell, 79, died
Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Colonial Chapel at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors with the Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor of First Baptist Church of Childress, and Dr. Derrell Monday, pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery at Miami. Mr. Cantrell was born in Miami and was a lifetime resident of Roberts and Gray Counties. During World War II, he served with the Navy as a flight captain on the carrier aircraft units 5 and 65, based out of San Francisco. A member of Central Baptist Church, he retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1973. He married Vaneta Gray in 1986 at Pampa. Survivors include his wife; three sons, C.E. Cantrell of San Antonio, Paul Cantrell of Staten Island, N.Y., and Ron Gray of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials be to Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 513 E. Francis Ave., Pampa, TX 79065; BSA Hospice and Life Enrichment Center, P.O. Margie Totty Wasson WAURIKA -- A private memorial service will held later for Margie W. Totty Wasson, 76, Ardmore, who died June 18, 2000, at her home. She was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Randlett, to Lewis and Bernice Totty. Raised in Waurika, she married Harvey Howard Jan. 3, 1943, in Waurika. He died in 1962. She and Orville Wasson were married March 22, 1968, in Purcell. He died in 1986. She was a former member of Rebekkah Lodge and women of the Moose and worked as a nurse's aide and cook for Waurika High School. She is survived by sons, Jimmie, Arlington, Texas, and Fred, Goddard, Kan.; a daughter, Faye Bollen, Ardmore; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Dudley Funeral Home will direct services. |
