The County of Jackson was created in 1826 from
Lafayette, nearly all its territory was acquired from Osage & Kansas
Indians, June 2, 1825. The county seat is located in Kansas City,
MO.
1884 July 29th Death of Jonathan<sic>(Johnson)
Harrison TOTTY, Independence, MO
Notes: Johnson Harrison TOTTY was
born April 27, 1824 in Hickman County, TN. He was baptised
into the Utah Church by Elder Joseph Argyle on March 21st, 1878 and went
to Manassas, Conejos County Colorado and in 1880 settled with others of
that church. He was baptized again on January 9th, 1884 by Bro. W.W.
Blair when that church was reorganized. Johnson Harrison TOTTY was
reported to have died while chopping wood, caused by a blow from a small
stick of wood. He was survived by his wife , five sons and three
daughters. His Obituary was found in "Obituarie from the RLDS
Archives "Saint's Herald" Independence, Missouri 1884, Vol. 31 p. 535".
He was the son of Harrison and Patsy Johnston TOTTY.
1884 August 3rd Baptized

1898 December 17th Death of Susan
B. (Spradling) TOTTY, Sr., Independence, MO
Notes: The Obituary was found from the
RLDS Publication "Zion's Ensign", which stated that Susan B. Spradling
TOTTY was born in Warren
County, Tennessee, however we know from the diary of her sister
Rhoda May Spradling TOTTY that they were born on Hickory Creek in Warren
County, TN. Her obituary states that they moved to Bedford Co., and
later to Hickman
Co., TN. At this time no records have been found in Bedford
Co., for the David & Susannah Spradling family.
Susan was married on August 12, 1843, to
Johnson (Harrison) Totty. She was survived by five sons and three
daughters. She was baptized into the RLDS church in Colorado
by Bro. W.W. Blair, January 19, 1884, and removed the same year to Independence,
where she died. The obit said, she was "loved and respected by all
who knew her. She was of a cheerful disposition and led a consistent life."
The Sermon was by Elder Garrett, December 18th, and she was buried in Independence
cemetery. She was the daughter of David and Susannah SPRADLING of
Hickman County, TN.
1913 April 18th Death of Leroy
Nix TOTTY, Independence
Notes: LeRoy Nix Totty was
born March 8, 1851, in Hickman Coutny, Tennessee. He was survived
by his wife Sarah Elizabeth TOTTY TOTTY, d/o Williford D. & Narcissa
TOTTY, one son, and two daughters. He was married to Sarah on March
17, 1870 in Hickman Co., TN. LeRoy Nix TOTTY was the s/o Johnson
Harrison TOTTY and Susan B. SPRADLING, s/o Harrison and Patsy JOHNSTON
TOTTY.
1992 June 2st Death of Lawrence
P. TOTTY, Independence
Notes: The Obituary for Lawrence P. TOTTY
was printed in the Kansas City Star on June 3, 1992, Page C4 under Obituary.
Lawrence P. TOTTY was born in 1896 according to his headstone in the Woodlawn
Cemetery, in Independence. His wife Ruby E. Scott preceeded
him in death according to her gravestone s/s her husband. She was
born Dec. 31, 1897 and died Feb. 13, 1977. The Obituary mentions
that he was a life long resident of Independence, an agent for the Railway
Express Agency and retired in 1960. The same article mentions his
son's Paul Andrew "Pat" TOTTY, Jack Edward TOTTY, and a sister Pauline
TOTTY BURGESS. Lawrence P. TOTTY was the s/o Henry Jackson
TOTTY and Mary Scott, s/o Johnson Harrison TOTTY and Susan B. SPRADLING
TOTTY, sister of Rhoda May SPRADLING TOTTY, both daughters of David and
Susannah SPRADLING.
1997 April 7th Death
of Pauline TOTTY BURGESS, Independence
Notes: The Obituary for Pauline Burgess
was printed in the Kansas City Star, Obituaries on April 8, 1997, page
B4.
Pauline Totty Burgess was listed as age 89 at
the time of her death in Independence, MO, she was to be buried in
Mound Grove Cemetery. Pauline TOTTY Burgess was born
May 31, 1907, in Independence, to Henry Jackson and Mary Scott in
Independence where she was a lifelong resident. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Hurley K. Burgess, in 1985. Obit also mentions her
son Surviving are her son, Bob Burgess of Independence, MO.
Pauline TOTTY BURGESS was the d/o Henry Jackson TOTTY and Mary Scott, s/o
Johnson Harrison TOTTY and Susan B. SPRADLING TOTTY, sister of Rhoda May
SPRADLING TOTTY, both daughters of David and Susannah SPRADLING.
1998 August 2nd Death
of Paul Andrew "Pat" TOTTY, Independence
Notes: BTM] The Obituary of Paul
Andrew "Pat" TOTTY was found in the newspaper "The Examiner" dated Aug.
4, 1998. Paul was born on May 5, 1915 and died on August 2, 1998.
Mentions wife who survived along with one son, one daughter
and his brother Jack TOTTY. see below
He was buried in the Mount Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO. Paulwas
the son of Lawrence P. TOTTY and Ruby Scott, s/o Henry Jackson TOTTY and
Mary Scott, s/o Johnson Harrison TOTTY and Susan B. SPRADLING TOTTY, sister
of Rhoda May SPRADLING TOTTY, both daughters of David and Susannah SPRADLING.
1999 February 2nd Death of Jack
Edward TOTTY, Independence
Notes: BTM] The Obituary of
Jack Edward Totty shows he lived in Independence, Jackson Co., MO.
He was born 02-06-1918 and died on 02-02-1999 while in a Kansas City Hospital.
The Obituary names his wife Helen who survives him along with children
Stewart TOTTY, Stephen TOTTY and Kathleen TOTTY. No Cemetery was
mentioned, but Cremation was under the direction of George C. Carson &
Sons Independence Chaple. Obituary was in newspaper "The
Examiner" dated Feb. 4, 1999. Jack Edward TOTTY was the son
of Lawrence P. TOTTY and Ruby Scott, s/o Henry Jackson TOTTY and Mary Scott,
s/o Johnson Harrison TOTTY and Susan B. SPRADLING TOTTY, sister of Rhoda
May SPRADLING TOTTY, both daughters of David and Susannah SPRADLING.
1999 August 12th Death of
Frances R. TOTTY [Abstracted from Daily Newspaper of Eastern Jackson Co.,
Mo. dated Saturday August 14, 1999]
Notes: Frances R. TOTTY was born 1913 in
Tulsa,
Tulsa County, Ok. She married Jack TOTTY, sometime
after she graduated from Independence High School, on April 23,
1932. She was buried on August 16th, 1999 in the Turney
Cemetery in Lathrop, Clinton Co., MO. She died
in the Clinton Care and Rehabilitation Center in Plattsburg, Clinton Co.,
MO. Who was Jack TOTTY the son of? What was his full given
name?
