Fairmont City man shot to death
FAIRMONT CITY--- Authorities said Tuesday they
still are trying to piece together what happened during a shootout Monday
night at a Fairmont City tavern that left a Fairmont City man dead and
another wounded.
Fairmont City Police Chief Mark
Cronovich identified the dead man as Delbert H. TOTTY, 35.
The second man -- Patrick Green,
24 of Fairmont City was in stable condition Tuesday at Memorial Hospital
in Belleville. Hospital officials would not release any information
on Green.
Cronovich said the two men had been
inside Sue's Corner Tavern, at the corner of 41st Street and Locust Avenue,
where they apparently argued prior to the shooting at 8:40 p.m.
The chief said it's not known exactly
what caused the dispute, or whether the shooting took place inside or outside
the tavern. "We're not sure of the motive."
He said authorities believe the
weapons used "were large caliber."
Cronovich would not say whether
the weapons were recovered.
TOTTY's body was found on the south
shoulder of Locust Avenue, across the street from the tavern, he said.
