Introduction

The Totty Roots Family Records and document pages is a collection of our TOTTY Roots mailing list records and research by the TOTTY Roots Research Group. The County of Clarke was established in 1801 from Green and Jackson Counties. Green was taken from Washington, Oglethorpe and Wilkes Counties in 1786. Jackson was created in 1796 from Franklin which was originally Cherokee Lands.

1827 June 7 [The Georgians Genealogies of Pioneer Settlers by Jeannette Holland Austin, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc
Baltimore 1984. page 25] Josiah BEALLE m. Ann DENT 10/15/1822 Franklin Co., Ga. [Southern Recorder 6/18/1827]: "on evening of 7th inst., John TOTTY, a merchant of Clarke Co. to Martha E. BEALLE, dau. of Col. Thaddeus BEALLE of Morgan Co." Thaddeus and Josiah BEALLE and Thomas DENT of Hancock Co. bound to Thomas LAMAR for 1000 pds, 3/25/1794, Josiah to be Deputy Sheriff of Hancock Co.

Note: John TOTTY of Clarke County, Georgia married Martha E. BEALLE daughter of Thaddeus BEALLE, Sr. of Morgan County, Georgia and his wife Mary (JONES) BEALLE who were married on Jan 18, 1805. She had one brother named Thaddeus BEALLE Jr. Thaddeus BEALLE, Sr. was the son of Joseph BEALLE of Warren County, Georgia. Both Thaddeus BEALLE Jr. & Sr. were bound by court order as administrators to Joseph BEALLE's estate, along with Elias BEALLE on Dec. 2, 1806 in Warren Co., Georgia. Thadeus BEALLE was in the Chambers Co., Alabama 1850 & 1860 census records. We are still in the process of trying to identify the ancestors and parents of John TOTTY, if anyone can help us identify him please let us know. webmaster@totty-families.org

Notes: This is likely the son of John and Martha (Bealle) TOTTY, but unverified as yet. OR Henry could be the son of Thomas and Lucy (Tippitt) TOTTY.   Any help would be appreciated on identifying who his parents were.
