The County of Kern was established in 1866
from Tulare and Los Angeles Counties of California. The county seat
is located in Bakersfield. Los Angeles was the original county established
in 1850 after the California Gold Rush, along with the original County
of Mariposa. Tulare County was established from Mariposa in 1852.

John Sherrill Richardson - Bakersfield Californian, Tuesday, May 14, 1957
Richardson,
John Sherrill - Funeral services will be held at 2:30p.m. Thursday in the
Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara Chapel for John Sherrill Richardson, 67, 532 La
Vista Dr., Arvin, who died May 12 in a local hospital. The Rev. Edwin L.
Kopper will officiate. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery. The deceased
was a native of Texas and Had lived in Arvin the past 28 years. He was
a carpenter by trade. Survivors include his wife, Maude B. Richardson;
a son Durlin Richardson of Bakersfield; six daughters, Mrs. Perna Wofford,
Mrs. Norma Wernli and Mrs. Holly Odie all of Bakersfield, Mrs. Mary Vineyard
and Mrs. Jerry Bowque of Oxnard, and Mrs. LaVerne Wernli of Arvin; a brother,
David Richardson of Pennsylvania; a sister, Mrs. Neall Minyart of Arvin;
24 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Pallbearers
will be Richard Miller, Walter Johnson, Woodrow Wilson, Jerry Bryant, Henry
Simonson, and Alton Harrington.

Vineyard, Bowque, Minyart
Notes: This is the brother in law of Hattie
Lee Rodgers TOTTY, wife of Green Whitfield TOTTY.

Maude Bethel - Funeral services will be held at 2:30p.m. tomorrow in the
Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara Chapel for Maude Bethel Richardson, 64, 53 La Vista
St., Arvin, who died July 15 at 2604 Dora Dr., the home of her daughter.
The Rev. Edwin L. Kopper of the Arvin Assembly of God Church will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Family Plot in Union Cemetery. She is the
widow of the late John Sherrill Richardson who died May 12. The deceased
was a native of Montague, Texas and had lived in Arvin the past 28 years.
Survivors include one son, Durlin D. Richardson of Bakersfield; six daughters,
Mrs. Frank E. Wernli, Mrs. John Odie and Mrs. Dewel R. Wofford of Bakersfield,
Mrs. Lawrence H Wernli of Arvin and Mrs. Jerry Bourque & Mrs. Mary
Vinyard of Oxnard; father Thomas A. Rodgers of San Antonio, Texas; 24 grandchildren
and 9 great grandchildren; a brother, E. D. Rodgers of Bakersfield; four
sisters, Mrs. Hattie Torty(TOTTY) of Wasco, Mrs. Minnie Hawk of
Oklahoma, Mrs.! Ruby Hodges and Mrs. Laura Schneider of Texas and many
nephews and nieces. Pallbearers will be Richard Miller, Walter Johnson,

RODGERS,
Elsie Durling - Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Union
Cemetery for Elsie Durling Rodgers, 68, 72 1/2 Bernard St. who died November
3 in a Bakersfield hospital. The Rev. William Hann of Hillcrest Baptist
Church will officiate. Mr. Rodgers, a native of Uz,
(Montague Co.) Texas, had lived in Bakersfield 36 years. He was
a truck driver for 19 years for A. S. Mason Trucking Co. until his retirement.
Survivors include his widow, Graciela, three sons, Tommy of Amesbury, Mass.,
Jack and Jim of Bakersfield; two daughters, Mrs. Irma Cummings and Mrs.
Wanda Mangrum of Bakersfield; four sisters, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be A. S. "Tex" Mason, Marvin Mason, Dale Hodges,
J. D. Norris, Ramiro Gonzalez, L. T. Rider and Link Ellis. Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara

of William M. Hallmark
Note: William M. Hallmark was born in Arkansas
on March 12, 1907. He married Ola Pauline TOTTY in Oklahoma in 1926
when she was only 13 years old. They had five children born
to them.

of Jesse Elmer Sprinkle husband of Georgie Odell (Totty) SPRINKLE, daughter
of Green Whitfield and Hattie Lee (Rodgers) TOTTY.
1998 August 28th Death
of Mart Mull Boone
Notes: He was the husband of Gladys
J. TOTTY, daughter of Green Whitfield and Hattie Lee ROGERS TOTTY.
He was born January 10, 1922 in Barkersfield, Kern County, California to
George and Ella BACON BOONE. Mart Boone died in the same county
of Kern on August 28, 1998. Mart was buried on September 1, 1998.

Excerpts of Obituary of Mart M. Boone
Mart M. Boone passed away on August 28, 1998 at home
surrounded by his family. Mart was born in Bakersfield on January 10, 1922
to Ella and George Boone. Mart lived in the Bakersfield and Wasco area
while growing up. He and his family moved to California City in 1959 where
he began the Boone Construction Company. Mart and his company played a
major role in the early beginnings of California City including the construction
of the city’s Central Park and lake. Mart was also the first Honorary Mayor
of California City. He returned to live in Bakersfield in 1978 where his
two sons joined the company. Mart
retired in 1989 and his sons have continued to
operate the business. Mart is an Army veteran and served in the Asiatic-Pacific
Theatre during World War II. Mart was an
active member of the Fellowship for Christ Church and belonged to the Operator
Engineering Union Local #12 for over 50 years. He enjoyed driving his restored
1914 Model T Ford and was a member of the Kern County Model T club.
Mart’s family would like to give a very special thank you to the Kern Hospice
organization for their support and kindness during this very difficult
time. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Kern Hospice
in Mart’s memory. Mart was a loving, caring,
and generous man to all the people in his life. We will remember him always
and will continue to hold his love in our hearts forever, for what the
heart has once owned and had, it shall never lose. We love you Daddy and
we will miss you until we can see you again.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 31st
from 3:00pm to 9:00 pm. His service will be on Tuesday, September 1st at
10:00 am at the Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary.
