Totty  Roots

The County of Washington was created in 1828 from Crawford County, Crawford from Pulaski in 1820, and Pulaski from Arkansas an Original County in 1813.     Major indian tribes of the area were the Quapaw, also known as the Akansa or Arkansas, the Osage, and the Caddo.  The area was origanally opened to American settlers by the Spanish in 1783.  Arkansas Territory was formed in 1819 from Missori Territory in 1812 with settlers from Virginia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Mississippi, or Missouri.  The Arkansas Territority included present day Oklahoma until June 15 1836, when Arkansas became a State.

NOTES:    This may most likely be the Garrent STEPHENS found in Benton County records, listed as father of Elizabeth Caroline STEPHENS, and mother of Georgia Anna JENNINGS RODGERS, and grandmother of Hattie Lee RODGERS TOTTY who married by grandfather Green Whitfield TOTTY.    Elizabeth Caroline (Stephens) JENNINGS died in Montague Co., TX where Hattie Lee RODGERS and Green Whitfield TOTTY met.
