Introduction
The County of Union was from Hempstead and Clark Clark in 1829, both of which were created in 1818 from Arkansas an Original County created in 1813. Major indian tribes of the area were the Quapaw, also known as the Akansa or Arkansas, the Osage, and the Caddo. The area was origanally opened to American settlers by the Spanish in 1783. Arkansas Territory was formed from Missori Territory in 1812 with settlers from Virginia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Mississippi, or Missouri. The Arkansas Territority included present day Oklahoma until June 15 1836, when Arkansas became a State. The county seat is located in El Dorado, Arkansas.

MARY A. ADAMS
Mary Aleta Wherry Adams, 86, of Banks, died Friday,
Feb. 8, 2002, at BCMC.
Born Dec. 13, 1915, in Bradley County,
she was the daughter of the late Grover and Eunice Totty Wherry. She was
a retired dietician for the Banks Public School System, and a member of
Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Curtis Adams; a daughter, Carolyn Diane Adams; two
grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Survivors include four sons, J.C. Adams of Warren,
Phillip "Pete" Adams of Banks, Charles Adams of Kingsland and Reece Adams
of Banks; four daughters, Elizabeth O'Connor of Banks, Martha Jean Morse
of Ozark, Judy Moseley of Warren and Kathy Hall of Banks; four brothers,
Zollie Wherry and Bill Wherry of Little Rock, and Sam Wherry and Jerry
Wherry of Pine Bluff; five sisters, Ellen Solley of Ferndale, Mich., Margaret
Lindner of Little Rock, Francis Outlaw of Sumpter, Loree Braswell of Bastrop,
La. and Peggy Johnson of Pine Bluff; 26 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren
and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Frazer's
Chapel. Burial will be in Garrison Cemetery under the direction of Frazer's
Funeral Home of Warren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today
at the funeral home.
Eunice Totty Wherry was the daughter of Zolliecoffer
and Mary Bates Totty
